A pitcher that does something almost no other does: reduce bacteria, viruses, and cysts, alongside lead and PFAS, using a nanofiber filter. That makes it a real option for well or untreated water, if you accept a slow pour, short filter life, and lab-tested rather than NSF-certified results.

The rare pitcher that filters microbes, for the water that needs it

Almost every filter pitcher is built for treated city water, where the utility has already killed the germs and your job is taste and chemicals. The Epic Nano is built for the water that has not been through that: its nanofiber filter has pores small enough to physically strain out bacteria, viruses, and protozoan cysts, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, and MS2 virus among them, which the vast majority of pitchers cannot touch. It does this alongside reducing lead, chromium-6, PFOA and PFOS, heavy metals, and pesticides, so on paper it removes a very wide range. For a well, a cabin, an RV, travel, or an emergency kit, a pitcher that handles microbiology is genuinely useful.

Two honest caveats keep it out of the top tier. First, certification: Epic has its filters independently tested by EPA-accredited laboratories to NSF/ANSI methods, including microbiological protocols, but the Nano is not itself NSF-certified as a system. That is credible third-party data, better than marketing-only claims, but not the same as a certification. Second, the trade-offs of squeezing water through such a fine membrane: it pours slowly, and the filter clogs faster than a carbon cartridge, needing replacement every two to five months at around $50 a time, so running cost is high. It also does not remove fluoride. For everyday municipal water, that combination makes it more filter, and more hassle, than most people need.

Best for: well water, untreated or questionable supplies, cabins, RVs, travel, and emergency kits, where reducing bacteria and viruses matters and a slow pour is acceptable. On treated city water, a certified filter does the job you actually need for less money.
