The Clearly Filtered Clean Water Pitcher goes after the longest contaminant list in the category. Its Affinity filtration media is built to reduce more than 365 contaminants, and the reductions that matter most are strong: in the company’s third-party lab testing the filter cut lead by 99.3%, fluoride by more than 99%, PFOA and PFOS by more than 99%, arsenic by 98%, and trihalomethanes by more than 99%. Fluoride and arsenic in particular are contaminants almost no gravity pitcher touches, and unlike reverse osmosis or ZeroWater’s ion-exchange resin, it leaves beneficial calcium and magnesium in the water, so it does not taste flat.

Its headline health claims, lead, fluoride, PFAS, and arsenic, are not NSF 53 certified; they are verified by an independent ISO 17025 laboratory testing to NSF/ANSI 53 protocols. Why is it so slow to filter?

The dense Affinity media that captures so many contaminants is also what slows the pour. Independent testing measured about 2.27 gallons per hour, roughly 13 minutes to filter a half-gallon reservoir, so a full pitcher takes over 20 minutes. Rinsing a new filter before first use and keeping the upper reservoir topped up helps, but a slow flow is inherent to how thoroughly it filters.
