- Violations: Health-based violations since January 2016 from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). For California we add California-only and state-recorded violations from the State Water Board’s Drinking Water Watch that never reached the federal system. For Texas we use the federal records only; violations kept only in Texas’s own records aren’t included yet. For Florida we use the federal records only; violations kept only in Florida’s own records aren’t included yet. For New York we use the federal records only; violations kept only in New York’s own records aren’t included yet. Iron, manganese, chloride, sulfate, color, odor and zinc are left out: their federal limits are for taste and appearance, not health (New York enforces some of them as state limits).

- Filters: Only products whose certification for that contaminant we’ve checked on the certifier’s listing (NSF International, IAPMO R&T or WQA).
